How we did it

Hostess, a long-term partner of Acosta, faced the challenge of maximizing their allotted merchandising space and inventory in Walmart stores to improve retail compliance and sales. Acosta’s Supply Chain team identified a disconnect between store on-hand inventory levels and the feature presentation and shelf capacity.

Acosta’s team created a two-pronged solution utilizing proprietary technology and algorithms to either script all available Walmart Distribution Center (DC) inventory to store or hold 20% of inventory in the DC. This hold percentage remained flexible to meet Hostess’ evolving needs.

Analyzing data from 3,097 stores across five SKUs, Acosta delivered insights that influenced millions in inventory decisions. Nearly every Hostess feature was reviewed, resulting in Walmart-approved push orders and optimized DC-to-store inventory flows.

Acosta’s supply chain thought leadership and downstream inventory insights increased retail merchandising execution, improved efficiency, and stronger sales performance in Walmart stores. This custom, scalable solution highlights Acosta’s ability to turn complex retail challenges into measurable growth for its clients.
